Robin Arnett of Wise Mind Consulting is leading a workshop at the Nonprofit Lab in Denver on May 18, 2020. We recently had a chat with her and wanted to share some insights that we think can aid you in a more productive 2020!
What is the best advice a mentor ever gave you?
Trust your gut. There will always be an infinite number of other opinions and approaches out there, but yours, too, has value. Assume the value of your own thoughts and approach, and don't be afraid to put it out there for the world to see and benefit from.
What is your favorite tool for staying organized? What do you use it for and how do you use it?
The Google Suite. I use this constantly. Of course I use the traditional email tool, but I also constantly refer to lists that I create on Google Keep, appointments on the Google Calendar, and files in the Drive. I love the convenience that comes with the ability to tap into all of these on my phone or laptop, and keeping everything on the Cloud reduces clutter.
During our Online Conference, you are leading a workshop titled "Social Enterprise: Using an Economic Empowerment Approach to Level-Up Your Nonprofit's Programming and Funding." What is the most important piece of advice you think people should take from your workshop?
Be wary of adopting a scarcity mindset. The resources are out there, it's just a matter of thinking creatively and investing in long term solutions. The Social Enterprise can be incorporated in diverse and creative ways into your existing program models, or it can be the foundation for an entire organization. You just need to explore new ways to incorporate elements of social enterprise into your own organization!
